Vijay Kumar is new IGP Kashmir

Vijay Kumar, IPS was Saturday appointed Inspector General (IG) of Police, Kashmir range, according to a Jammu and Kashmir government order.
According to Government Order No. 32 – Home of 2019, Muneer Ahmad Khan, IPS (JK:1994), ADGP (L&O/HG & Security), shall, upon retirement on superannuation of Surinder Kumar Gupta, IPS (JK: 1997), Director, SSG, J&K, on 3l.12.20 19 (AN), hold the charge of the post of Director, SSG, J&K, in addition to his own duties till further orders.

Vijay Kumar, IPS (1K: 1997), IGP (Armed), Kashmir, is transferred and posted as IGP, Kashmir, vice S P Pani.

Kumar was brought to Jammu and Kashmir seven months back from Chhattisgarh where he was IG, CRPF.

During his tenure as IG CRPF, Kumar played a crucial role during many state elections in 2018 for which he was awarded the Election Commission Award by the President.

He received three gallantry medals from the central government for his role in anti-terror operations and also received a gallantry award from the Jammu and Kashmir government.

He had also handled the Jat agitation in 2016.

A post-graduate from JNU, Kumar has served in Jammu and Kashmir Police in various capacities in the past.

S P Pani, IPS (JK: 2000), IGP, Kashmir, is transferred and posted as IGP (Armed), Kashmir, vice Vijay Kumar.
