Teenager injured in grenade blast at Kawdara, Sgr

Sixth explosion in Sgr, eighth in Kashmir post Aug 5

Srinagar, Jan 01 : A teenager was injured and two private vehicles damaged in a grenade blast in Srinagar’s downtown area on Saturday.

This is the sixth explosion in capital Srinagar and eighth in Kashmir since Jammu and Kashmir’s special status was revoked on August 5.

According to wire service—, suspected militants lobbed a grenade in Kawdara area of downtown Srinagar that exploded at a distance from the deployment of central reserve police force (CRPF).

“There was a blast a few meters away from CRPF deployment. There might have been some minor injuries to locals but nobody has so far reported to us,” a senior police officer told.

CRPF spokesman in Srinagar Pankaj Singh said that their men were far away from the grenade blast site and caused no harm to the security persons. “They (the militants) just want to create terror and are targeting common people. The blast caused some minor injuries and the injured have been shifted to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital,” Singh said.

Medical Superintendent of SMHS, Nazir Choudhary confirmed that a teenager Aazar reported to the hospital with splinter injuries in his stomach. “A 17 year old boy came to us with injuries. He is stable and has superficial injuries in his stomach,” he said.  Soon after the attack, massive manhunt was launched in the area as security forces sealed the area for a few hours. (KNO)
