VPN Row : Police saved youth from Joining Militancy in Ganderbal

Appeals public not to use VPNs

Those who violate Govt. directions shall be dealt strictly

Police on Tuesday claimed to have saved a youth from Joining militancy ranks after he was misused and misguided by a Pakistani based handlers on social media.

Police in a statement said a an Orphan child, economically very poor of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal village was active on social media by misusing VPNs has been found in touch with Pakistan based handlers.

Police in a statement said his Facebook account was kept under surveillance by District Police Ganderbal who gathered information about his activities and the motivation done by handler to join militancy. Accordingly a team of Police Component Ganderbal , 5 RR and CRPF 115 BN after registration of FIR No. 04/2020/U/S 13 ULAP Act , 188 IPC at Police Station Kheerbhawani arrested the accused and then put him under sustained interrogation.

Police statment further reads that it has been found the accused is highly radicalized, has uploaded objectionable contents on Facebook which includes propagation of ISIS ideology. He had also joined many whatsapp groups who are spreading rumours, radicalize the youth and propagate hatred against the Indian state.

Police in a statement said the accused was accessed all social media sites through misuse of interest by using 15 different VPNs. He was ready to join militancy as the Pakistani handler had got established his contacts with militant groups in Shopian, however timely intervention of Police has saved the youth from Joining militancy.

Police has started a drive against all those who are misusing the VPNS for their involvement in nefarious and unlawful activities.

General public is informed through media not to use VPNs for accessing the social sites.

Legal action shall be taken against all those who voilate the Government directions and the provisions of law.
