COVID-19: 2 villages declared red zones to prevent spread of disease in Shopian

Umar Rashid

Shopian, March 30 : In wake of the fresh positive cases for coronavirus, the administration here on Monday declared two villages in Shopian district of south Kashmir as red zones and their surrounding villages as buffer zones to prevent the spread of the pathogen.

The villages include Sedow, Ramnagri and its nearby areas, an official of the administration told.

“The area has become more vulnerable as far as further transmission of the COVID-19 virus is concerned. It is necessary to break the further transmission of the disease in the area and it becomes imperative to take stringent precautionary measures like declaring some villages as containment/red zone and surrounding areas as a buffer zone,” the officer said.

The officer directed the officials concerned to ensure the supply of essential commodities as per laid down protocols in the villages and warned of stern action against anyone who tries to violate the orders. (GNS)
