BRO to resume work on pending projects in JK, Ladkah UTs

GoI directs Railway ministry to keep special trains for ferrying migrant workers

Srinagar, June 1 (KINS): On the directions of Ministry of Defence New Delhi, the Border Roads Organization is all set to take up massive developmental works in border areas of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir Union territories.

Reliable sources revealed to news agency KINS that India is continuing to take up infrastructure for better connectivity to the Line of Actual Control with China in Ladakh at a time when troops from both countries are locked in a standoff in Ladakh after Chinas objection to Indian road construction activities in the region.

“To ensure timely competition of the all the pending projects especially in Ladakh, followed by those in J&K the migrant labourers are being ferried in special trains to both areas with an sole aim to complete projects on time and to increase the livelihood of migrant workers,” sources told KINS.

 Troops from both sides are locked in a standoff after transgressions by the Chinese in Pangong Tso and Galwan valley.

“The BRO fast-racked infrastructure development such as recommencing work on the Rohtang tunnel, also known as the Atal tunnel, in April after it was halted for 10 days,” a senior BRO official said.

Earlier, army Chief General M M Naravane had stated that this tunnel will be completed by October. He also mentioned that work on other tunnels at Sela in Arunachal Pradesh and under the Brahmaputra is happening. The BRO had also opened the Manali-Leh road and Rohtang pass– that get blocked with snowfall every year–weeks in advance. (KINS)
