Shopian Encounter: Three militants killed, operation on

17 militants killed so far this month in Shopian

Srinagar, June 16: Three militants were killed in an ongoing gunfight with government forces in Turkwangam area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.

Official sources told news agency that three militants were killed in the operation. However, he said, the identity of the slain militants was yet to be ascertained.

A senior Police officer told news agency that bodies are yet to be retrieved from the encounter site.

Pertinently 17 militants including three militants of today’s ongoing encounter have been killed this month in Shopian district so far.

Earlier, according to the reports, a joint team of Police, Army’s 44RR and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Turkwangam.

As the joint team approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter. (GNS)
