DDC Shopian felicitates 4 Meritorious Girl Students

SHOPIAN, JUNE 19: To further the aim of promoting education of girl child in the district, District Development Commissioner (DDC), Shopian, Choudhary Mohammad Yasin today felicitated 4 meritorious girl students under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Campaign in a function organized here at Mini Secretariat.

In the function, Ms. Bazila Hussain, Ms. Rasiya Rafiq, Ms. Iqra Jan and Ms. Rabiya Gulzar were felicitated by providing laptops for topping in graduation degree examinations in Medical, Non-medical, Arts and Commerce streams respectively.

While congratulating girl students, the DDC said that education is the only tool to empower female folk in real sense in our society. He said through education we can fight against social evils like female foeticide, discrimination between boys and girls, child marriage, dowry etc. How the girls will defend and fight for their rights when they don’t know their rights in first place, the DDC expressed.

He called upon them to act as ambassadors of BBBP campaign and work in close coordination with district administration to promote education of girls and endeavour to enroll left out and drop out girls in schools through proper counseling and motivations. Career counseling of other girl students is another responsibility which they have to shoulder, the DDC said.

He said that to promote and support education of girls, the district administration has previously felicitated 50 meritorious girl students of 10th class, carried out capacity buildings of 32 girl students belonging to poor families for competitive exams like NEET and JEE besides providing stationery items and study materials to above 100 girl students under BBBP campaign.  “We are also establishing libraries for girl students in 10 government schools where quality books will be made available for them,” the DDC added.

Earlier the girl students apprised the DCC about their ambitions of serving society by becoming civil servants, entrepreneurs, social activists, teachers etc.
