Srinagar July 3(KINS): IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar Friday said Srinagar is not militancy free city as militants keep coming to the summer capital.
“Srinagar is a city where militants often come for medical treatment, meetings, and receive funds. It will be wrong to say Srinagar militancy free. Militants will come to Srinagar and we will continue to neutralise them. It is not necessary that there is no presence of militants in any district where encounters don’t take place. Militants often change their hideout and shelter,” Kumar told reporters when asked about the number of militants in Srinagar.
As per news agency Kashmir In depth News Service, the IGP was talking to reporters on the sidelines of a wreath laying ceremony of a CRPF man who was killed in late night encounter yesterday at Malbagh on Srinagar outskirts.
About Thursday encounter in Malabagh area, he said JKP had information about presence of two militants in the area.
“When J&K police and CRPF launched a search operation, the hiding militants opened fire in which one CRPF person got injured. But he continued to chase the militant and killed him. It is a big success for the security forces,” he said.
The IGP identified the slian militant as Zahid Dass and associated with ISJK.
“He was involved in various criminal activities including killing a six-year old boy in Bijbehara and also attacked CRPF men.” (KINS)
