LMD imposes Rs.1 lakh fine on Tile Company

Srinagar, July 20 (KINS): Legal Metrology Department, Rajouri today imposed a fine of Rs.1 lakh on a manufacturer of a Floor Tiles for launching non-standard packs, violating Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules and breaching trust of consumers on false pretexts ignoring right of consumers to know the quality, potency and other manufacturing details of products purchased from the open market.

Assistant Controller Kewal Krishan said that a case was registered against the said company after a routine Departmental inspection team detected that the tile packages offered for sale in the market were not carrying declarations of month/Year of manufacture and mandatory customer care details thereby leaving consumers vulnerable to deception by dealers in the market.

Earlier, the manufacturer was booked and taken to task by issuing legal notice for grossly violating law and allowing dealers in open market adopting anti-consumer practices in various forms and manifestations.

After legal procedure, the defaulting company admitted to the lapse and requested department for compounding of the offence. The Assistant Controller on written submission compounded the case and realised an amount of Rs.1 lakh into the Govt. exchequer.(KINS)
