DSEK conducts webinar on ‘World Suicide Prevention Day’

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 10: Directorate of School Education Kashmir today conducted a webinar on the occasion of ‘World Suicide Prevention Day’ themed ‘Working together to prevent suicides’.

The webinar was inaugurated in virtual mode by Director School Education Kashmir Mohammad Younis Malik.

In his speech, Director Education emphasized the primary role of teachers in helping and guiding the students to cope up with the pressure.

He said that the parents and society as a whole has an onerous responsibility in guiding, counseling and helping the young minds to sort out their issues and problems so that they do not tempt to undertake drastic steps like suicide under pressure and desperation.

Renowned clinical Psychologist and Director Youth Development Center Dr Muzaffar Ahmad, in his address deliberated upon the causes and indicators of suicide.

He gave a detailed overview of global scenario of suicide rate and comparing it with the scenario in Jammu and Kashmir, and added that the teacher counselors have a big role to play in helping their students come out of stressful situations

Renowned Psychiatrist and Associate Professor in SKIMS Medical College Bemina, Dr Abdul Majid gave a detailed presentation on the subject.

In his address Dr Majid said that in the present scenario, imparting moral education to students can play a vital role in getting them out of mental stress and stressful situations.

World Suicide Prevention Day is observed every year on 10th September in order to raise awareness about suicide prevention.

More than hundred teacher counselors from across Kashmir division, District Nodal Officers, parents and students participated in the webinar.
