Police arrests four drug peddlers in Srinagar and Awantipora;
Contraband substance recovered


Srinagar, Jan 09 (KINS): Acting tough against the drug dealings, Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Srinagar and Awantipora and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
Police in a statement issued to news agency KINS said, “In Srinagar, officers at a checkpoint established at New Bypass near Peaks Automobiles intercepted a vehicle bearing registration No. JK05D-1382 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Latief Ahmad Mir resident of Patwah Budgam and Firdous Ahmad Teli resident of Jahama Budgam. During checking, officers were able to recover 16 grams of Brown Sugar like substance wrapped in Polythene from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to PS Nowgam where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
In this connection, a vide case FIR No. 01/2021 under relevant sections of law registered at Police Station Nowgam and further investigation has been initiated”.
“In Awantipora, Police party from PS Pampore at a checkpoint established at Doninara Crossing near Grid Station Pampore intercepted two persons identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Dar resident of Namblabal Pampore and Adil Ahmad Bhat resident of Litterbal Pampore. During checking, officers were able to recover 80 Kgs of Poppy Straw from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to PS Pampore where they remain in custody.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 03/2021 under relevant sections of law stands at Police Station Pampore and further investigation has been initiated.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law” it said.
Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.(KINS)
