Advisory Issued by Authorities Amidst Rising Forest Fires in Kulgam

Srinagar, Jan 20: In response to the heightened risk of forest fires in Kulgam, authorities issue a comprehensive advisory, urging the public to exercise caution and cooperate with preventive measures.
Due to an extended dry weather spell, the threat of fire incidents, particularly forest fires, has escalated in various areas of District Kulgam, including Nagnard Chimmer, Ringath Khull Zradoo, Chambgund, Pranhall, and Banimullah. Quick Response Teams from the Forest Department, SDRF, Revenue, and Local volunteers have successfully controlled reported incidents, with significant contributions from the local community.
Preventive Measures:District Administration is actively maintaining firebreaks to mitigate the risk of forest fires.
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been implemented to control and prevent significant losses to local biodiversity.
Collaborative efforts involving Forest Department, District Disaster Management Authority, Fire and Emergency Services, and the local community are underway to promptly control fire incidences.
Watch towers and elevated points are strategically used for early detection of forest fires.
In light of the frequent occurrences and potential impact on green wealth, an advisory is issued to the public, especially those residing near forest areas:
Avoid outdoor burning, campfires, and activities with fire risk, particularly in dense vegetation areas.
Regularly clear dry leaves and inflammable debris from surroundings and gardens.
Restrict visits to forest areas and avoid introducing flammable substances.
Exercise caution when moving with livestock in forest areas.
Refrain from disposing of cigarette butts, domestic ash, etc., in forest areas.
Avoid burning leaves, bushes, grass, stubble, and debris near forest areas.
Extend full cooperation to firefighting teams during operations.
