Srinagar, Mar 07: Despite forecasts indicating isolated light rain and snow over Jammu and Kashmir, night temperatures in the Kashmir Valley witnessed a slight increase, settling above the sub-zero level, except in Gulmarg and Pahalgam on Thursday.
According to a meteorological department official, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 2.1°C, up from the previous night’s minus 1.5°C, though still 1.2°C below normal for this time of the year. Qazigund also saw a rise with a minimum of 1.8°C compared to the previous night’s minus 0.6°C, remaining 0.4°C below normal. Pahalgam, however, recorded a low of minus 0.4°C, showing a slight increase from the previous night’s minus 2.9°C, and was 1.0°C above normal for the renowned resort in south Kashmir.
Kokernag, situated in south Kashmir, registered a minimum temperature of 0.1°C, down from the previous night’s minus 1.3°C, standing 1.8°C below normal. Similarly, Kupwara town recorded a low of 2.5°C, lower than the previous night’s minus 1.5°C, remaining 2.5°C below normal. Meanwhile, Gulmarg reported a low of minus 4.2°C, slightly higher than the previous night’s minus 6.5°C but still below normal by 0.7°C for the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
In Jammu, the minimum temperature was recorded at 7.6°C, remaining below normal by 11.4°C for the winter capital of J&K. Other areas such as Banihal recorded a low of 1.6°C, Batote 4.5°C, and Bhaderwah 1.6°C.
The weather forecast suggests mainly dry weather in Jammu and Kashmir until March 10, with the possibility of light rain/snow at isolated places on Thursday. The weatherman has not predicted any significant weather activity until March 10.gns
