RKFC to face Shillong Lajong FC on Wednesday

Kashmir’s team, a top contender for I League title

Srinagar March 12: Real Kashmir Football Club (RKFC) is set to face Shillong Lajong FC in an I League match on Wednesday (March 13) at SSA Stadium Shillong.

Addressing a pre-match press conference on Tuesday, RKFC head coach Ishfaq Ahmad expressed confidence in the team’s preparation, anticipating a tough game against Shillong Lajong FC but hoping for a positive outcome.

“Although we defeated Shillong Lajong FC in our earlier game in Srinagar 3-1. However, the team has played well especially in the Round 2. I believe it will be a tough game but I hope our players will give their 100 percent in the match and give good results for our team,” Ishfaq said.

Asked whether the team was eying to clinch the I League title this season, “Our main focus is presently on Wednesday’s match. We expect to win the match against Shillong Lajong FC and increase our points on the table.”

RKFC player Shahid Nazir also briefed the media about Wednesday’s match.

Currently RKFC holds the 3rd spot in the I-League table with 34 points from 18 matches including 10 wins, four draws and four losses.

With few games left, Kashmir’s team is one of the contenders for the 2023-2024 I League title and is behind only Mohammedan Sporting Club and Sreenidi Deccan FC on points table.

RKFC will play it’s home game on March 17 against Delhi FC at TRC Ground Srinagar.

Under the guidance of local head coach Ishfaq Ahmad, the team predominantly consists of Kashmiri players in the current season. RKFC stands as the sole club from J&K participating in the I League.

Founded in 2016 by late Sandeep Chatoo, RKFC has become a crucial platform for nurturing talent of youth in the valley. Through its unwavering commitment, RKFC has facilitated the youth of J&K to play in the nation’s top football leagues.
