Blind Voter Makes History: Ali Mohd Rather Casts Vote from Home in Srinagar for 2024 Lok Sabha Election

Srinagar, May 07: In a remarkable display of inclusivity and accessibility, Ali Mohd Rather, a resident of Dara in part 68, 19-Hazratbal, 02-PC Srinagar, became the first home voter in Srinagar to cast his vote. Despite being visually impaired, Rather exercised his democratic right with the help of the unique Home Voting facility provided by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The initiative, lauded by the District Election Officer of 02-Srinagar, marks a significant milestone in ensuring that Persons with Disabilities (PwD) are not disenfranchised and have equal opportunities to participate in the electoral process. This groundbreaking step underscores the commitment of the ECI towards fostering an inclusive democracy where every citizen’s voice matters.
Ali Mohd Rather’s determination and the support provided by the ECI highlight the importance of removing barriers to political participation for individuals with disabilities.
