SRINAGAR, SEP 13 (KINS): General Observer for Srinagar, Rajan Vishal, visited the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) and Media Centre at the DC Office Complex to review their functioning ahead of the Assembly Elections 2024. During the visit, he emphasized the critical need for equal focus on social media monitoring, describing it as a “new and never-ending domain” with significant consequences for the electoral process.
Vishal inspected the duty rosters, weekly Google sheets detailing suspected and confirmed cases of paid news, and daily media reports. He underscored the importance of monitoring social media platforms extensively to ensure no issues go unnoticed that could impact the elections.
The Nodal Officer for the MCMC briefed the General Observer on the Committee’s overall functioning, highlighting the deployment of separate teams tasked with monitoring various media outlets. These teams are responsible for flagging paid news, advertisements, misinformation, and disinformation across print, TV, radio, and social media.
The Observer was also apprised of the mechanisms in place for the pre-certification of political advertisements, ensuring a smooth process across all media platforms. The MCMC is further working to provide real-time election-related updates to the public, media, and stakeholders, ensuring the transparency and effectiveness of the election process.
Vishal was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Srinagar, Khalid Hussain, and other officials during his visit.(KINS)
