Affarwat Gulmarg sees season’s first snowfall, Rains lash J&K, clear skies expected by Afternoon: MET

Srinagar, Sep 27 (KINS): The renowned ski destination of Gulmarg in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district witnessed its first light snowfall of the season on Friday.
According to the officials the Affarwat Gulmarag Mountains received a light dusting of snow, signaling the end of an extended dry spell.
The fresh snowfall brought a noticeable dip in temperatures, creating a wintry atmosphere in the area.
A handful of tourists were spotted delighting in the early snow, capturing the scenic beauty of Gulmarg’s pristine white landscapes.
Meanwhile Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a spell of light to moderate rainfall overnight, as rains lashed both the plains and hills.
Director of the Meteorological Department, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, confirmed that the downpour was accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in some areas.
“Rainfall occurred during the night, continuing into the morning in both Jammu city and Srinagar,” said Dr. Ahmad.
Mukhtar Ahmed had informed yesterday that the weather is expected to improve in the afternoon today , and the MET doesn’t expect any significant rainfall until October 5.
According to the latest forecast from the MET Centre, the region will experience the following weather pattern over the coming days
September 26-27: Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms, primarily ending by late morning on the 27th.
September 28-30: Mostly dry weather though isolated brief spells of rain or thunderstorms may occur on the 28th.
October 1-5: The weather is expected to remain largely dry.
An advisory from the department had also warns of potential “thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds at isolated places,” with a slight chance of light snowfall over higher altitudes during the night of September 26.(KINS)
