500 new Panchayat Ghars sanctioned for J&K to strengthen rural development, Says Secretary Mohammad Eijaz Asad

Srinagar, Nov 28 (KINS): Mohammad Eijaz Asad, Secretary of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Jammu and Kashmir, announced on Thursday that the Ministry of Panchayat Raj, has sanctioned 500 new Panchayat Ghars (village council offices) across the Union Territory.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting in Pulwama, Mohammad Eijaz Asad, emphasized the importance of ensuring that the benefits of government schemes reach the grassroots level.
According to news agency KINS, Asad shared, “I am pleased to announce that the Ministry of Panchayat Raj, Government of India, has sanctioned 500 new Panchayat Ghars for Jammu and Kashmir.”
Today, we conducted a meeting to understand how well our schemes are benefiting the people, he said.
The Secretary stated that while some blocks and panchayats were performing well, others required improvements. “We have identified areas that need attention, and we have set a timeline to address these issues,” he added.
Asad also discussed the progress of sanitation efforts in rural areas, noting that J&K was one of the first regions to try door-to-door sanitation. “We have made efforts, but there are still challenges. We are working to overcome them,” he said.
Regarding the condition of old Panchayat Ghars, Ajaz Asad mentioned that an audit had been conducted to identify those in need of repair. “We will be repairing the old Panchayat Ghars to make them functional and accessible for the people,” he said.(KINS)
