17 dead as mysterious disease claims sixth child from Rajouri family

Jammu, January 19 (KINS): The death toll from a mysterious disease in Jammu’s Rajouri district has risen to 17, with the demise of another child from a single family.

Yasmeena Jan, the sixth and youngest child of Mohammad Aslam from Badhaal village, succumbed to the illness at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu on Friday evening.

An official told news agency KINS that Yasmeena was initially admitted to GMC Rajouri last Sunday but was later referred to GMC Jammu on Monday due to her deteriorating condition.

“Her condition was critical from the outset,” confirmed Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal of GMC Jammu.

The deaths have triggered widespread concern in the region as officials work to identify the cause of the illness, which has devastated Aslam’s family.
