Srinagar, Feb 19 (KINS): Chief Engineer of the Jal Shakti Department Kashmir Bham Jyoti Sharma on Wednesday assured the public that they should not worry about the water disruption scheduled for February 22 and 23 in Srinagar.
The Civil Investigation & Design Wing of JKPDC, Kashmir, has announced a 30-hour shutdown of the Sindh Power Canal HEP Old Ganderbal on these dates for essential repairs and desilting of the forebay.
However, the Chief Engineer clarified that the shutdown does not mean a complete cut-off of tap water. “There will be some disruption, but people will still receive water, although in lesser quantities than usual. Additionally, our department will arrange water supply through tankers,” he told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).
He explained that JKPDC had requested the shutdown to carry out crucial maintenance and desilting work on the Sindh Power Canal.
This shutdown will significantly impact the raw water supply to key water treatment plants at Nishat, Alusteng, and Rangil, thereby affecting potable water availability across large parts of Srinagar city and adjoining areas.
According to an urgent public notice issued by the authorities, areas expected to face water shortages include Zakoora, Gulab Bagh, Buchpora, Soura, Nowshera, Zadibal, Lal Bazar, Hazratbal, Rainawari, Khanyar, Sonwar, Batwara, Lal Chowk, Karan Nagar, Bemina, Batmaloo, Qamarwari, Noorabad, Umerabad, and several others.
Furthermore, hospitals operating in Srinagar have been advised to coordinate with the Jal Shakti (PHE) Department to ensure an uninterrupted water supply for critical services (KINS)
