Fresh spell of rain and snow expected in J&K till February 28: MeT Department

Srinagar, Feb 26 (KINS): The Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain and snow across both Jammu and Kashmir divisions till February 28, with isolated heavy snowfall over higher reaches.

According to an official, the past 24 hours witnessed light to moderate rain and snowfall in the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, while some isolated areas experienced heavy snowfall.

The weather is expected to remain generally cloudy, with light to moderate precipitation continuing over most places in the Union Territory. However, isolated heavy snowfall is likely over higher reaches in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions.

Issuing an advisory, the MeT department warned of temporary disruptions in surface transportation along key routes, including, Sadhna Pass, Razdhan Pass, Sonamarg-Zojila-Gumri Axis, Mughal Road, Sinthan Pass

Other major roads in hilly districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Tourists, travelers, and transporters have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and follow the latest advisories from the administration and traffic authorities.

Additionally, farmers have been advised to suspend irrigation and other farming operations during this period.

Weather Outlook for March

March 1-2: Generally cloudy with light rain and snow at isolated to scattered places.

March 3: Light to moderate rain and snow likely at many places.

March 4-6: Weather expected to remain generally dry.

The MeT department has also cautioned about a significant drop in daytime temperatures in the coming days.(KINS)
