Govt acts against illegal mining at Shaliganaga Nallah, Budgam: Dy CM tells Assembly

Jammu, March 8 (KINS): Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary informed the Legislative Assembly today that strict action has been taken against M/s NKC Projects Private Limited for unauthorized mining at Shaliganaga Nallah in Lanilab Basant Wooder, Budgam.

The issue of illegal mineral extraction was raised in the House by MLA Khan Sahab, Safiud-Din Bhat, after a video exposing the activity surfaced on social media on March 2.

The District Mineral Officer (DMO) Budgam, acting on a report from the Directorate of Geology and Mining, promptly sent a team to investigate. The probe confirmed that the company had engaged men and machinery to extract approximately 300 metric tonnes (MT) of Nallah Mukh without the necessary permits.

Following the investigation, the DMO issued a formal notice (No. DMO/Bud/DGM/F-106/4558-67, dated March 3, 2025) to the company’s Project Manager at Basecamp Gudsathoo, Budgam, ordering an immediate halt to all illegal mining activities and demanding relevant documentation.

The government has assured strict monitoring and legal action against unauthorized mineral extraction in the region.(KINS)
