BJP key meeting underway in Srinagar ahead of Rajya Sabha Elections

KINS Desk

Srinagar, Oct 12 (KINS): An important meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently underway in Srinagar ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections.

Senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, spoke to the media, highlighting the significance of the gathering, which includes all 28 party MLAs.

Sunil Sharma as per news agency KINS said, “The meeting of all 28 MLAs is happening here in Srinagar. The main agenda is to plan for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Our Parliamentary Board has announced three candidates, and their nominations will be submitted. This meeting is important to decide our strategy to ensure our candidates win.”

He added, “We are discussing plans and strategies to make sure our candidates get the support they need.”

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) earlier announced three candidates for the upcoming elections to four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir, scheduled for October 24.

The party has nominated its Jammu and Kashmir unit president Sat Pal Sharma, along with Dr Ali Mohammed Mir and Rakesh Mahajan, as approved by the BJP Central Election Committee.

The Election Commission has issued three separate notifications for the polls to the four seats. Based on the current assembly composition, the National Conference-Congress alliance holds an advantage on three seats, while the BJP is comfortably placed on one.

However, the BJP’s move to field candidates across all seats has set the stage for a keen political contest. The party is expected to launch an intensive outreach to seek support from MLAs of other parties in an effort to boost its prospects.

Earlier, on Friday, the National Conference had announced its three nominees for the Rajya Sabha elections and confirmed that discussions were ongoing with the Congress regarding the fourth seat.(KINS)
