JKSA seeks fair probe into “Amar Singh College harassment allegations”

Srinagar, May 07 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Thursday expressed deep concern over the alleged harassment of a female student at Amar Singh College, Srinagar. The association said that, The incident is deeply disturbing and raises serious concerns about the safety, dignity, and well-being of students within educational institutions. Colleges and universities must remain spaces where students feel secure, respected, and free from any form of intimidation, harassment, or discrimination.

State President of Association Mubashir Ahmad urges the authorities to take immediate cognizance of the matter and conduct a fair, transparent, impartial, and time-bound investigation into the allegations. The matter must be investigated thoroughly so that the truth is established and accountability is ensured.

The Association has full faith in the administration and the police that the case will be handled with utmost seriousness, fairness, and sensitivity. Any student raising concerns or allegations deserves to be heard with dignity and protected from intimidation or victimisation.

At the same time, the Association believes that the identity and personal details of the accused must also be handled responsibly and sensitively until the investigation is completed. Sharing photographs, names, or personal information publicly before the inquiry reaches its conclusion is unfair, irresponsible, and contrary to the principles of justice and due process. Allegations must be investigated seriously, but public shaming or social media trials before the facts are established cannot be considered justice.

Since an inquiry committee has already been constituted and has reportedly been given a fixed timeframe to submit its findings, Mubashir said that, we urge everyone to allow the investigation process to conclude without prejudice, speculation, or attempts to influence the outcome. It is important that the inquiry remains fair, unbiased, and free from external pressure so that justice is delivered in a credible and transparent manner.

Incidents of this nature cannot be brushed aside or ignored. Ensuring the safety, confidence, and well-being of students must remain a top priority for every educational institution. JKSA stands in solidarity with the student and reiterates its commitment towards ensuring safe, secure, and accountable educational spaces for all students.(KINS)
