Nitin Gadkari says NH-44 viaduct, tunnel ready; LG hails highway milestone
Srinagar, July 01 (KINS): Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday announced the completion of two major infrastructure projects on National Highway-44 in Jammu and Kashmir, aimed at providing safer and uninterrupted connectivity to the Kashmir Valley, while Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Minister for the milestone.
The projects include an 810-metre-long viaduct near Ramsoo in Ramban district and the 3.5-km AT-03 tunnel connecting Digdole and Panthyal. The new infrastructure bypasses one of the most landslide-prone stretches of the Ramban-Banihal section, ensuring faster, safer and all-weather movement on the strategic highway.
In a post on X, Gadkari said, “These engineering marvels bypass one of the most landslide-prone stretches of the Ramban-Banihal section, ensuring safer, faster, and all-weather connectivity to the Kashmir Valley.”
He said the projects would reduce travel time, improve road safety and facilitate seamless movement of tourists, local commuters, defence vehicles, freight and essential supplies throughout the year.
Reacting to the development, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for transforming road infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the newly completed viaduct and tunnel would ensure smooth, all-weather connectivity for residents, tourists, freight carriers and security forces while providing a safer and more reliable route for pilgrims undertaking the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026.
The two projects are scheduled to be opened for traffic on July 3.(KINS)
