Jammu, July 31 (KINS): Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha on Friday inaugurated a series of new academic initiatives at Cluster University Jammu, describing them as a major step towards transforming higher education and preparing students for future challenges.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor launched the university’s “Design Your Degree” programme and said the 21st century will belong to young people who can combine knowledge from different fields and develop innovative solutions.
“The frontiers of knowledge are constantly expanding. Today’s challenges are multidimensional and require multidisciplinary solutions. The future belongs to those who see possibilities rather than boundaries. This initiative will allow students to design their academic journey based on their interests, talents and aspirations,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor also inaugurated integrated programmes in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics and Geography, saying these courses would help students become holistic researchers capable of addressing complex issues.
Referring to challenges such as climate change, he said they cannot be understood through a single discipline and require knowledge from several fields, including science, mathematics and geography.
The university also launched a one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Sanatan Dharma and Indian Knowledge Systems and established a Department of Vedic Studies.
Highlighting the importance of balancing modern education with cultural values, the Lieutenant Governor said India’s intellectual heritage—from the Vedas and Upanishads to ancient mathematics, astronomy, Ayurveda and linguistics—offers valuable scientific and philosophical knowledge that should be preserved and studied.
He said the new programme would enable students to understand India’s civilisational wisdom while pursuing modern education.
Shri Sinha also inaugurated the Semiconductor Skilling Programme in collaboration with IIT Madras, calling it an important step towards strengthening India’s technological capabilities.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India has resolved to become a leader in technology development and manufacturing. This programme will equip students with advanced skills required by future industries and strengthen India’s position in the global semiconductor and deep-tech sectors,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor urged students to focus on skill development, innovation and research, saying every new skill and innovation would contribute to India’s journey towards self-reliance and global leadership.
He expressed confidence that the new academic initiatives would not only enhance the quality of higher education but also contribute to the overall development of Jammu and Kashmir.
During the event, the university also launched a Postgraduate Programme in Environmental Sciences with Minor Specialisation in Renewable Energy, a one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Dogri Translation, released the Nasha Mukt Bharat activity report, and renamed the Vice-Chancellor’s office-cum-secretariat complex as “Suryaputri Tawi Bhawan” and the old IIM campus as “Chandrabhaga Campus.”
The function was attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.S. Chandrasekar, Registrar Ankur Mahajan, heads of constituent colleges, faculty members and students.(KINS)
