SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 18: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday handed over appointment letters to 29 newly selected officers of the Jammu Kashmir Police (Gazetted) Service, urging them to serve with courage, integrity, compassion and a strong commitment to justice.
Addressing the newly appointed officers, the Lieutenant Governor said the appointment letters represented the trust placed in them by the people of Jammu Kashmir and carried the responsibility of safeguarding their dignity, security and future.
He congratulated the officers for successfully completing the transparent and merit-based selection process conducted by the Jammu Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC).
Sinha said that after completing mandatory police training, the officers would become guardians of peace, dignity and justice and would have to remain prepared to address evolving security challenges, including terrorism, radicalisation and new methods of terror financing.
“After your training, when you wear the khaki uniform, you will stand as a protective shield between the terrorist forces and organisations across the border and the ordinary citizens of Jammu Kashmir,” he said, stressing the need to ensure a fear-free environment for every citizen.
The Lieutenant Governor also urged the officers to combine authority with compassion and uphold the rights of vulnerable sections of society.
“You must resolve that, regardless of how difficult circumstances may become, you will choose integrity and duty. Always remember that the respect commanded by the uniform depends on the honesty, courage and conduct of the officers who wear it,” he said.
He called upon the officers to uphold the guiding principle, “Do not harass the innocent; do not spare the guilty,” and to use their authority in the cause of justice.
Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat, Principal Secretary Home Chandraker Bharti, Commissioner Secretary GAD M Raju and senior police and civil administration officials attended the ceremony.(KINS)
