Extended holidays not the solution to heat woes: Alok Kumar

Srinagar, July 27 (KINS):Principal Secretary of the School Education Department, Alok Kumar, stated on Saturday that extending holidays is not a viable solution to the current heat woes.

Speaking to reporters, Kumar acknowledged the challenges posed by high temperatures but emphasized the importance of maintaining the school system.

“We are all enduring the heat, but there is a system in place. We have already extended the holidays,” Kumar explained, noting the impracticality of keeping schools closed until temperatures completely subside.

He highlighted the need for consistency in educational operations, pointing out that similar measures are not taken during colder months.

“How many days can we keep the schools closed?” Kumar questioned, stressing the necessity for schools to function uninterrupted.

While acknowledging the flexibility needed for students facing health issues due to extreme weather, Kumar said that demands to close schools because of heat cannot always be met.

He noted that school facilities currently include drinking water and shaded areas, and although air conditioning is not yet available, there are plans for future installation as resources allow.

Kumar reaffirmed the department’s commitment to gradually improving infrastructure to address heat-related challenges.
