Srinagar, Oct 08 (KINS): National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah has won the Ganderbal and Budgam Assembly seats, marking his second electoral victory after his earlier success in Budgam.
This win strengthens the NC-Congress alliance, which has now surpassed the 46-seat majority mark in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, setting the stage for the first elected government since the abrogation of Article 370.
NC President Farooq Abdullah expressed pride in his son’s performance and the party’s strong showing. “Omar has proven himself, and no doubt, he will become the Chief Minister,” Farooq Abdullah said, as per news agency KINS.
As per ECI data, the NC was leading in 42 seats, while its ally Congress was leading on six seats.
It is almost clear that the NC- Congress alliance will clear the majority and will form a government led by the NC-Congress coalition.
Omar Abdullah, speaking to the media after his dual victories in Budgam and Ganderbal, emphasized the alliance’s strength.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir have shown their faith in the National Conference, and the support of our alliance partners has made this victory even more meaningful,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was leading on 29 seats, solidifying its position in the Jammu region.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has managed to win just three seats, while seven independent candidates have also claimed victory. In a significant development, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made its debut in the region, winning its first-ever seat in Doda.
This electoral outcome contrasts with the fiercely competitive 2014 Assembly elections, where the PDP had emerged as the single largest party with 28 seats, while the BJP followed closely with 25 seats, forming a coalition government with the PDP. The National Conference had won 15 seats, and Congress 12, but this time, the NC-Congress alliance has reclaimed a dominant position in the region.(KINS)
