Srinagar, Oct 29 (KINS): With the onset of winter, thousands of migratory birds have started arriving in Kashmir Valley.
These birds begin migrating to Kashmir in October and stay until March, during which time they can be seen dancing over the wetlands of the valley.
According to news agency KINS, hundreds of birds can currently be seen on Dal Lake and other water bodies, such as Hokersar.
“Every year, migratory birds, maintaining their centuries-old relationship with Kashmir, visit the valley’s wetlands and enjoy the temperate climate. Intensive patrolling by the wildlife department’s staff at Dal Lake has helped attract large numbers of migratory birds by deterring poaching,” an official told KINS.
Starting in October, these birds migrate from Siberia, China, the Philippines, Eastern Europe, and Japan to the valley, staying for about five months. The Valley offers them a comparatively hospitable alternative to the extreme freezing conditions of their natural habitats in the northern hemisphere. (KINS)
