Rahul Gandhi in Srinagar: Nation must stand united to defeat terrorism
Srinagar, April 25 (KINS): Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Friday said the objective behind the Pahalgam terror attack was to divide the people of India, and stressed the need for national unity to decisively defeat terrorism.
Calling the April 22 massacre a “terrible tragedy,” Gandhi told reporters in Srinagar, “I came here to understand the ground reality and to help in any way I can. The people of Jammu and Kashmir have unequivocally condemned this horrific act and have stood firmly with the rest of the country.”
The Congress leader arrived in Srinagar on Friday morning and visited the Army’s 92 Base Hospital at Badamibagh Cantonment to meet those injured in the attack. “I met one of the injured victims. Others had already been discharged. My love and support go to all the families who have lost their loved ones. The entire nation stands with them,” he said.
Referring to the all-party meeting held in Delhi on Thursday, Gandhi emphasized that the Opposition is united in condemning the attack and supporting the government’s response. “This attack was aimed at dividing society, at turning brothers against each other. It is critical that every Indian stands together to reject this intent and defeat terrorism,” he said.
Gandhi also met with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who briefed him on the situation. “I assured both of them that my party and I fully support their efforts in this time of crisis,” he added.
Addressing reports of Kashmiri citizens being harassed in other parts of the country, the Congress MP expressed concern. “It is deeply saddening to see my brothers and sisters from Kashmir being targeted elsewhere. This is not the time for division. We must stand united and confront terrorism together,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Gandhi met with delegations of traders, student leaders, and tourism stakeholders in Srinagar to hear their concerns and offer solidarity.(KINS)
