Jammu, Apr 25 (KINS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday led a large public gathering in Samba as part of the ongoing 100-day drug-free Jammu and Kashmir campaign, urging collective action to eliminate the menace of drugs from society.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor asserted that the fight against drugs cannot be won by law enforcement alone but requires awareness, cooperation, and active public participation. He said the ongoing campaign would inspire future generations and demonstrate that united public efforts can bring transformative change.
Highlighting the role of youth, he said the solution to the growing drug problem lies in their hands, describing their dreams as powerful and their potential limitless. He urged them to stay on the right path with determination, while calling on society to support and guide them.
The Lieutenant Governor stressed that every Panchayat must become drug-free and every police station must be cleared of drug traffickers. He said the success of the campaign over the next 85 days would not be measured by rallies or slogans, but by concrete outcomes such as the number of rehabilitated individuals, prosecuted smugglers, dismantled fake centres, registered cases, seized contraband, and formation of women’s committees at the Panchayat and ward levels.
He also called for continuous monitoring of the campaign, directing Deputy Commissioners, SSPs, and other enforcement agencies to conduct weekly reviews to ensure a comprehensive approach—from identification and counselling to treatment, recovery, and rehabilitation.
Referring to the broader challenge, the Lieutenant Governor said drug abuse had been systematically fueled from across the border to finance terrorism and destabilize society, with youth being the primary targets. He stressed the need for strict legal action against those involved in such networks.
Describing the campaign as a people’s movement rather than a government initiative, he noted increasing public participation, with parents, teachers, community leaders, and even former victims coming forward to spread awareness and prevent others from falling prey to addiction.
On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor flagged off a bike rally and launched the Samba Cricket Premier League under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan, reinforcing the message of a united and sustained fight against drug abuse.(KINS)
