Union Minister Piyush Goyal announces 3-year IP fee waiver for sports sector, felicitates J&K Ranji Team

Srinagar, Apr 28 (KINS): Union Minister of Commerce and Industry  announced a three-year waiver on all intellectual property (IP) registration fees related to sports, effective immediately.

The announcement was made during the  celebrations in New Delhi, themed “IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate!”.

The waiver will cover trademarks, copyrights, patents, designs, traditional knowledge, and geographical indications, aiming to boost innovation across the sports ecosystem. The Minister also assured facilitation support under existing government schemes to help innovators, students, and stakeholders secure IP rights.

During the event,  felicitated the Jammu and Kashmir Ranji Trophy team for their historic victory, including a landmark win over eight-time champions . The achievement was hailed as a moment of pride and a sign of the region’s rising sporting potential.

Highlighting India’s craftsmanship, the Minister underscored the importance of the GI-tagged Kashmir Willow Bat, calling for its greater global promotion and increased manufacturing within Jammu and Kashmir.

He also emphasized the need to develop sports manufacturing hubs in regions like Jammu & Kashmir and  to strengthen domestic production of sports goods and boost local economies.

Reiterating the government’s vision of “innovate, patent, produce and prosper,” the Minister encouraged stakeholders to convert ideas into IP assets and leverage India’s expanding global trade opportunities.

On the occasion,  also launched the “Viksit Bharat Digital Matrix 2026 – Design Hackathon,” a six-month initiative focused on smart wearables, organised in collaboration with .

The programme also featured discussions on sports innovation, IP awareness, and future opportunities, alongside exhibitions showcasing advancements in sports technology and manufacturing.(KINS)
