Omar welcomes SC remarks on voter deletions, opposes UCC in J&K

Srinagar, Oct 06 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s observations on voter deletions during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), saying the extent of corrective action would become clear after responses from the Election Commission and Centre.

Omar Abdullah said the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) should be debated and passed by Parliament before being implemented across the country, asserting that it would not be implemented in J&K.

On the deportation of undocumented Bangladeshi nationals, he said those entering India without authorisation cannot stay illegally. However, he questioned the action against Rohingya refugees, saying the matter falls under the Centre and that the J&K Police is not under the UT Government’s control.(KINS)
