Congress holds ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ protest in Pampore

Pampore, Oct 22 (KINS): The Indian National Congress held a peaceful ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ protest in Pampore on Wednesday, calling for the protection of democracy, the sanctity of the vote and the constitutional rights of the people.
Earlier, AICC Observer Kuljit Singh Nagra visited Town Hall, Pulwama, and chaired an expanded meeting of the District Congress Committee (DCC). The meeting was attended by DCC members, block and town presidents, representatives of Mahila Congress, NSUI and Youth Congress, along with senior party leaders. A press conference was also held to highlight the campaign’s objectives and significance.
During the meeting, Nagra issued directions for the November 1 programme at Ramlila Maidan and called on party leaders and workers to strengthen the ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ campaign at the block, mandal and panchayat levels.
He emphasised unity, discipline and grassroots mobilisation, urging Congress workers to actively participate in the campaign.
Those present included Ab Rahim Rather, MLA Irfan Hafiz Lone, senior leader Surinder Singh Channi, Ashiq Hussain Khanday, Mahila Congress District President Shameema Raina, RGPS District President Dr Javid, Ab Qayoom Dar, Advocate Rayees Qadri, and representatives of NSUI, Youth Congress and other senior party workers.
The party also expressed concern over the reported early-morning detention of several senior Congress workers by the authorities. Congress leaders said democratic voices should be heard and peaceful political activities respected.
The party leadership called on Congress workers and the general public to support the campaign and ensure that its message reaches every village, panchayat and neighbourhood across Pulwama district.
The Congress reiterated its message: “Save the Vote, Save Democracy, Save the Nation.”
