Srinagar, Oct 26 (KINS): The appointment of Dr Sajjan Singh Yadav as the new Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir comes amid the presence of several senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers in the Union Territory’s top administrative hierarchy, including officers senior to him in terms of batch and others belonging to his own 1995 batch.
Among the senior officers are Shaleen Kabra and Ashwani Kumar, both 1992-batch IAS officers, followed by Dheeraj Gupta, a 1993-batch officer, and Ashish Chandra Verma, who belongs to the 1994 batch.
Two officers from Yadav’s own 1995 batch are also holding key administrative positions in Jammu and Kashmir. These include Shailendra Kumar, Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary) in the Finance Department, and Anil Kumar Singh, Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary) in the Public Works (R&B) Department.
Several other IAS officers from Jammu and Kashmir are serving outside the Union Territory. Vipul Pathak, a 1992-batch officer, is on central deputation, while Navin Choudhary, a 1994-batch officer, is posted in Delhi. Rohit Kansal, who belongs to the 1995 batch, is serving as Secretary in the Rural Development Department of the Government of India.
Yadav’s appointment places him at the helm of the Union Territory’s civil administration, where coordination among senior bureaucrats and key departments will remain important for governance and implementation of government policies.
The seniority of IAS officers is determined by their service batch and applicable cadre seniority rules, while their administrative responsibilities depend on their current postings and assignments. (KINS)
