Residents demand high school in Gamroo Village

Gamroo(Bandipora) Jan 31: Residents of Village Gamroo of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district are up in arms demanding a high school in the area.
Locals say most girls quit education after passing class-8 examination because residents say it is difficult for the girls to travel to other areas.

Ali Mohammad Dar, an Ex Lecturer from the area, said that there is a single school but there are classes up to middle and no classes of matriculation.

“It is not possible for girls belonging to economically backward class to travel for high school or college from Gamroo to any other area because of huge distance,” he added.

Javeed Ahmad Baba, a resident of Gamroo, said that there is a lone middle school for girls and no high school.“There is dire need of establishing a high school ,” he added.

President Auqaaf Committee of the village Mohammad Shafi Bhat, told this correspondent that setting up of at least a high school is need of the hour because absence of institutions is a reason behind low literacy rate among women there.

“Most girls abandon education after class-8 due to the reason there is no high school or higher secondary in village, they added. Some residents of Gamroo have migrated from the village because of lack of high School and higher secondary in the village.

Auqaf committee has already taken this issue with higer authorities but they did not provide any heed to the demands.

People of Gamroo and adjacent areas appeal Governor Jammu and Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora and Director School Education to look into the genuine demands of people, So that the long pending demand of people in general and students in particular could be fulfilled without any more delay.

Gamroo is a medium size village located in Bandipora Tehsil of Bandipora district, Jammu and Kashmir with total 216 families residing. The Gamroo village has population of 1573 of which 793 are males while 780 are females as per Population Census 2011.

In Gamroo village population of children with age 0-6 is 245 which makes up 15.58 % of total population of village. Average Sex Ratio of Gamroo village is 984 which is higher than Jammu and Kashmir state average of 889. Child Sex Ratio for the Gamroo as per census is 960, higher than Jammu and Kashmir average of 862.

Gamroo village has higher literacy rate compared to other areas of Jammu and Kashmir. In 2011, literacy rate of Gamroo village was 77.86 % compared to 67.16 % of Jammu and Kashmir. In Gamroo Male literacy stands at 88.77 % while female literacy rate was 66.82 %.
