DC Kupwara reviews implementation of PCPNDT Act

KUPWARA, NOVEMBER 06 (KINS): The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Imam Din today convened a meeting of concerned officers to review the implementation of Pre-Conceptional and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act 1994, at DC Office, here.

The meeting discussed threadbare various issues related to proper implementation of the act.

The Deputy Commissioner threw light on the importance and scope of PC and PNDT act and said the act was enacted with the intent to prohibit pre natal diagnostic techniques for determination of the sex of the fetus leading to female foeticide.

The DC gave directions for strict implementation of the act at ground level and directed concerned for checking of registration of Ultrasound clinics in the district.

Earlier, the Chief Medical Officer Kupwara and other concerned members gave their suggestions for proper implementation of the act.

Others who participated in the meeting include District Social Welfare officer, Medical Superintendent District Hospital Handwara, District Health Officer, Dr Fareeda Gynaecologist DH Handwara, Dr Khalid Raheem (Paediatrician) DH Handwara, Dr Saleem (Radiologist) DH Handwara, Advocate Zubair Ahmad and Saif Din Tantray.
