FCSCA for ‘no compromise’ with food quality

KI: There have been complaints in the past that ration provided to the consumers is not of good quality. What measures you have taken in this regard?
D: Department won’t allow any compromise with the ration quality. We take samples if there are any complaints. There is not even a one percent compromise. Further government is setting up a laboratory in Srinagar to check the quality of rice.
KI: How are you going to stop ration pilferage from depots?
D: There is zero tolerance on ration pilferage. There is complete transparency in the department now. The department has installed CCTV cameras in godown and offices. We are also considering installing of CCTV cameras in every ration depot. We have set up a control room and monitor on which route our vehicles are plying.
KI: There are reports that traders are not selling food items as per rate-list?
D: Where ever there are complaints or we notice that, we take the action. We issue monthly rate and traders have to adhere it. We have even framed two checking squad teams for north and south Srinagar to check any profiteering. We have grievance cell, where people can lodge their complaints.
KI: Is there any shortage of ration in far-flung areas?
D: We dump the ration and other goods in bordering and snow bound areas so that they don’t face any shortage of goods. We have enough stock of rice, kerosene, or gas available.
KI: A lot of posts are also vacant in the department?
D: They have been referred to recruiting agency and the process has been initiated to fill up all these posts.
