Srinagar: Massive clashes broke out between youth and government forces at several places in Shopian district of South Kashmir on Sunday evening, reports said.
As soon as authorities started deployment of polling staff and government forces at polling booths, intense clashes and stone pelting was reported from Bongam, Bonabazar and Meemandar Shopian areas of the district.
Earlier authorities have pressed helicopter into service to ferry election staff and EVMs to more than two dozen booths in “sensitive” Zainapora sub division of the district.
Clashes were going on when this report was filed.
