Forest Deptt organizes plantation prog under ‘Green J&K Drive’

SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 26: Forest Department in collaboration with Department of Youth Services and Sports organized a plantation programme under ‘Green J&K Drive’ at Indoor Sports Complex here today.

On the occasion saplings of different varieties were planted on the Complex Campus.

Secretary Youth Services and Sports Department, Sarmad Hafeez was the chief guest.

The function was attended by Chief Conservator of Forests Kashmir S.F.A Gillani, Secretary J&K Sports Council Naseem Choudhary, Chairman National Society for Protection of Water Resources, Wetlands and Forests and various NGOs.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Youth Services & Sports appreciated the efforts of the Forest Department for organizing such events. He emphasized that such programmes should be organized at district levels wherein officials of Forest Department and Youth Services & Sports will collaborate for greening of playing fields, stadiums, School grounds and office campuses etc.

He also assured that the saplings which have been planted during the programme will be taken care of. He also said that tree plantation is most important to boost environmental protection measures as well as promote afforestation.

 Sarmad Hafeez stated that it is the responsibility of every citizen to participate in tree plantation and promote the green and clean environment. He hoped that sportspersons will play a role in the success of ‘Green J&K Drive’.

Chief Conservator of Forests, Kashmir said that the Forest Department is involving all departments and stakeholders in the plantation programmes across J&K to achieve the objectives of the ‘Green J&K Drive’.
