Srinagar, Dec 16: Intelligence reports indicate the presence of an estimated 250 to 300 “terrorists” stationed at launchpads along the border, with intentions to infiltrate the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The revelation came from a top Border Security Force (BSF) officer, Inspector General Ashok Yadav, who addressed the media in Pulwama district, situated in south Kashmir, on Saturday.
Yadav acknowledged the concerning intelligence inputs, stating, “There are intelligence inputs that 250-300 terrorists are waiting at launchpads, but we and the Army have dominated all the vulnerable patches and are alert.” Despite the imminent threat, he reassured the public that both the BSF and the Army are on high alert, ready to thwart any attempts at cross-border infiltration.
“We are confident of foiling any infiltration bid,” Yadav added, emphasizing the preparedness and dedication of the brave jawans (soldiers) stationed in the border areas.
The statement underscores the commitment of security forces to maintaining the territorial integrity and peace of the region.
Moreover, Yadav highlighted the positive trend of increased collaboration between the security forces and the local population in Kashmir over recent years.
“The, connect between the security forces and the people of Kashmir has increased over the last few years. If people cooperate with us, we can take developmental activities forward in a better way,” he said.
This collaborative approach between security forces and the local community reflects a broader strategy aimed at fostering trust and cooperation to enhance the overall security and development landscape in Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile amidst a recent surge in infiltration attempts, security protocols are undergoing a comprehensive reassessment, emphasizing the strategic utilization of intelligence inputs, deployment of advanced surveillance technologies, and regular patrols along vulnerable stretches of the Line of Control (LoC).
The primary goal is to establish a formidable deterrent against potential infiltrators and swiftly neutralize any emerging threats.
A senior official within the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) underscored that troops have received explicit instructions to maintain the highest vigilance levels along the International Border and LoC, particularly in key districts such as Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch, Baramulla, Kupwara, and others in the Union Territory.
According to sources, the Defence Ministry has also issued a directive to keep the Army on high alert. The Army and Border Security Forces have intensified patrolling efforts in mountainous valleys and riverine areas along the LoC, specifically in districts like Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, and Rajouri, to counteract potential infiltration attempts.
