Pulwama: Buoyed by the ongoing peaceful elections in Jammu and Kashmir and over 61% turnout in the first phase of polling, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has invited a group of senior diplomats, mainly from the US, European and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), to “get first-hand experience of the ongoing election process in Jammu and Kashmir”. Sources told The Hindu. Official sources said the Ministry of External Affairs has extended invitation to about 20 diplomats from select embassies working in New Delhi, including the US, France, Germany, Singapore, Philippines and Malaysia. So far, 16 diplomats have accepted invitations. He is expected to arrive in Kashmir on a two-day visit on September 25, the day elections are scheduled in Srinagar.
