‘Teach BJP a Lesson for Betrayal’: Mir Urges People to Reclaim J&K’s Pride

Srinagar, Sept 27 (KINS): All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Ghulam Ahmed Mir called on the people of Jammu and Kashmir to deliver a strong message to the BJP in the ongoing assembly elections, accusing the party of betraying their trust.
Speaking at a public meeting in Khour in support of Congress candidates Tara Chand (Chhamb) and Ashok Bhagat (Akhnoor), Mir emphasized that these elections are not merely about electing MLAs but about reclaiming Jammu and Kashmir’s pride and dignity.
“For too long, the BJP has made false promises and backstabbed our people. They downgraded our Dogra state to a Union Territory, stripped away our special status, and reduced our state subject to a domicile status. Even our Dogra certificate, a symbol of our identity, was taken away,” Mir declared.
He urged voters to use this election as an opportunity to restore their rights and voice: “We owe it to ourselves, our children, and our beloved Jammu and Kashmir to fight for our dignity and honor.”
Mir credited the Supreme Court and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for forcing the BJP-led government to hold these assembly elections, allowing the people to reclaim their democratic rights. “Rahul Gandhi’s relentless efforts have given us this chance. Let’s not waste it,” he urged, calling for unity to defeat the BJP’s “anti-people policies.”
In his speech, former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand echoed Mir’s sentiments, accusing the BJP of suffocating the region by stripping its statehood and attacking the democratic rights of its people. “The INDIA alliance, led by the Congress, has consistently fought for the restoration of democracy in Jammu and Kashmir. We are committed to empowering the people to shape their own destiny,” Chand stated.
Both leaders urged voters to seize this crucial moment to chart a new future for Jammu and Kashmir, restoring the region’s dignity and democratic rights. Congress leaders Pragat Singh, Ashok Bhagat, and others also spoke at the event, calling for a strong mandate to oust the BJP and bring relief to the region.(KINS)
