SSP traffic rural Kashmir leads comprehensive drive to curb violations & ensure road safety

Srinagar, Nov 20 (KINS): In a bid to improve road safety and reduce traffic violations, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, Ravinder Paul Singh (JKPS), along with DySP Traffic Baramulla/Kupwara Mujahid Nazir, conducted a significant traffic awareness program and enforcement drive across Chadoora, Humhama, and Budgam.
News agency KINS reported that the initiative targeted violations such as over-speeding, dangerous driving, overtaking, overloading of passengers and goods, unfit vehicles, and driving without requisite documents, including licenses, route permits, insurance, and pollution certificates. Habitual violators, including minors driving vehicles, were a major focus, and several vehicles were penalized or seized during the operation.
Ravinder Paul Singh emphasized the need for strict adherence to traffic laws to minimize accidents, particularly in hilly areas where overloading and unsafe practices are common. He sent a clear message that reckless driving, seatbelt non-compliance, and distracted driving, including mobile phone usage, will not be tolerated.
“Vehicles driven by minors will be seized, and parents or guardians enabling such violations will face strict action under the Motor Vehicles Act,” stated SSP Singh.
He also highlighted the importance of wearing helmets, discouraging triple riding, and adhering to traffic advisories, especially during the winter season.
The drive is part of a broader campaign to create safer roads by promoting responsible driving habits and enforcing strict penalties for violations. SSP Singh further directed DySPs, DTIs, and SOs to intensify their efforts against traffic violations in their respective jurisdictions, focusing particularly on minors driving vehicles and other dangerous practices.
The awareness drive also engaged pedestrians, urging them to use footpaths and zebra crossings while discouraging risky behaviors such as stunt driving.(KINS)
