KVIB B’la organizes awareness camp for unemployed youth and aspiring entrepreneurs
Baramulla, December 09 (KINS): The Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) organized an awareness camp cum interaction program at Dakbanglow Sopore to foster entrepreneurship and empower unemployed youth and artisans. Presided over by Dr. Hina Bhat, Chairperson of KVIB J&K, the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from aspiring entrepreneurs, artisans, and a significant number of women who showcased their unique talents and crafts.
According to news agency KINS Dr. Hina Bhat was visibly impressed by the exceptional craftsmanship displayed by the artisans. She praised their intricate handwork and acknowledged the vital role they play in preserving and promoting the region’s cultural heritage. Dr. Hina assured the artisans that KVIB would take active steps to address their concerns and provide platforms to showcase their talent to a broader audience. She stated, “Your talent is invaluable, and KVIB is here to ensure that your hard work receives the recognition and support it deserves.”
During the event, participants highlighted several challenges, particularly regarding market access and financial assistance. Artisans shared their difficulties in selling products directly to consumers due to intermediaries, which significantly reduce their earnings. Additionally, they raised concerns over delays in bank loan disbursements and the stringent requirements for guarantees, which often hinder their ability to access financial aid.
In response, Dr. Hina Bhat directed the Lead District Manager (LDM) to streamline the loan disbursement process, making it more accessible to aspiring entrepreneurs. She emphasized KVIB’s commitment to simplifying procedures and removing barriers that limit the growth of local talent. She also encouraged artisans to leverage KVIB-supported platforms, such as e-commerce channels and exhibitions, to connect directly with consumers and maximize profits.
The Chairperson also stressed the importance of empowering women and youth through skill development, financial assistance, and marketing support. She reassured participants that KVIB is committed to creating a supportive ecosystem that benefits artisans and contributes to the local economy.
In addition, Dr. Hina Bhat highlighted the importance of environmental responsibility. She directed the department to strictly avoid the use of plastic in any of its functions or events. She remarked, “As part of our commitment to sustainability, I instruct everyone in the department to ensure that plastic is not used in any of our programs or functions. We must set an example for the community.”
Earlier, various speakers at the event detailed the government’s welfare schemes under KVIB. These initiatives, including financial aid, skill-building programs, and market linkage support, are designed to promote self-employment and empower artisans and entrepreneurs across the region.
Later, while addressing the media, Dr. Hina Bhat expressed satisfaction with the participation and engagement at the camp. She mentioned that 250 skilled women had participated in the camp and emphasized that plans were underway to establish clusters and individual units to further empower them. She also highlighted KVIB’s success over the past three years, noting that 3,500 units had been established in Baramulla with an investment of ₹104.85 crores as subsidies, benefiting approximately 28,000 people. Dr. Hina reiterated her commitment to supporting women entrepreneurs and artisans, ensuring they have access to the necessary resources and platforms for growth.
The camp was attended by the Secretary KVIB, ADC Sopore, the Lead District Manager, representatives of various banks, artisans, NGOs, and other societies. (KINS)
