Security tightened in Kashmir ahead of Republic Day Celebrations

KINS DESK
Srinagar, Jan 22 (KINS): Security measures have been intensified across Kashmir to ensure smooth and peaceful Republic Day celebrations.
Police and other security agencies are conducting sanitization and area domination exercises as part of the preparations.
The main Republic Day event in Kashmir will be held at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar. Security barricades have been set up at both the northern and southern gates of the venue. Police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed across the city and in other district headquarters, with checkpoints established at key locations, particularly at entry points into Srinagar and other districts.
Security forces are carrying out random vehicle checks and frisking individuals to prevent any potential subversive activities. Multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place at Republic Day venues, including Bakshi Stadium, to ensure the safety of attendees.
“The security preparations for January 26 are in full swing. Multi-tier security arrangements will be in place so that people can enjoy the function and parade without any concerns,” said Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V. K. Birdi.
Officials have instructed security agencies to remain vigilant and prevent any attempts to disturb law and order or disrupt the peace.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, V. K. Bhidhuri, stated that the arrangements for this year’s Republic Day functions would surpass those of previous years. He highlighted the administration’s decision to install higher-quality LED screens at the venue to enhance the viewing experience for attendees.
Bhidhuri also noted that, as was the case last year, entry to the Republic Day function would be free, encouraging greater public participation.
“Given the enthusiastic response from the public during last year’s celebrations, we are committed to making this year’s event even more memorable,” Bhidhuri said.(KINS)
