The move comes after video footage highlighting the poor condition of the vendor market circulated widely on social media, triggering public outcry.

As per an order, a copy of which lies with news agency KINS, the decision was taken following a review meeting on Mehraj-ul-Alam 2025, during which the Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar emphasized the urgent need for intervention.

The Chairperson of the Waqf Board has directed for immediate and decisive action to improve hygiene and aesthetics in the area.

Committee members:

Anzar Hamid, Junior Engineer (J.E) – Member

The committee has been tasked with:

  1. Conducting a comprehensive assessment of Chapri Market’s hygiene, structural aesthetics, and overall conditions.
  2. Proposing a cohesive color scheme for vendor structures to enhance the market’s visual appeal in line with ongoing beautification efforts at the shrine.
  3. Addressing long-pending concerns of Sabzi Market vendors, including a proposed layout for canopy-type structures and measures for resolving rent-related issues.

The committee has been directed to submit its report with recommendations within ten (10) days. (KINS)
