Omar Abdullah Govt working to fulfill promises despite challenges; Drug menace bigger concern than alcohol debate, says Dy CM Surinder Choudhary

Baramulla May 20 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary on Wednesday said the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is committed to fulfilling all promises made to the people despite facing multiple challenges, while also stating that proposals for construction of bunkers in border areas have already been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

He further said that the growing drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir is a far bigger concern than the ongoing debate over alcohol sales in the Valley.

Speaking to Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) in Uri Baramulla, the Deputy Chief Minister said the National Conference-led government remains focused on delivering on its commitments to the people.

“Our government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is committed to fulfilling the promises we have made, despite the many challenges before us. We are not like the PDP, BJP or PC, who made false promises,” Choudhary said.

On the issue of safety measures in border areas, he said the government has already forwarded the list for construction of bunkers to the Ministry of Home Affairs and expressed hope that the proposals would receive approval soon.

Referring to the ongoing debate over liquor sales in Kashmir, Choudhary alleged that a “big conspiracy” had been created around the issue and claimed that most wine shops in Jammu and Kashmir were opened during the “BJP-PDP regime”.

He said the increasing drug abuse among youth was a more serious challenge confronting society and required attention from all stakeholders.

“The growing menace of drugs is the real issue that needs attention. I do not advocate alcohol, and it can be stopped anytime, but the bigger concern for society today is drug abuse,” he said.(KINS)
