J&K Police observes international day against drug abuse with valley-wide awareness events

Srinagar, June 26 (KINS): Marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police organized a series of awareness programmes across the Valley, reaffirming their commitment to a drug-free society.

The central event was held at the Youth Development and Rehabilitation Center (YDRC), Eidgah Srinagar. The programme was led by Dr. Mohammad Muzafer Khan, Director of YDRC, and graced by SO to DIG CKR, Shri Peer Zahoor Ahmad, as Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included SP North Shri Showkat Ahmad, SDPO Khanyar, and officers from DIG CKR’s office.

Speakers highlighted the devastating impact of drug addiction and urged collective efforts from the community to combat the menace. SP North and other dignitaries stressed the importance of prevention, awareness, and early intervention.

Simultaneously, similar events including debates, rallies, and seminars were conducted in districts including Shopian, Anantnag, Budgam, Kulgam, Kupwara, Handwara, Ganderbal, and at the IRP 6th Battalion Headquarters in PCR Kashmir. A special rally, themed “Choose Life, Not Drugs,” was organized by ANTF Kashmir and KRSF from Exhibition Ground to Ghanta Ghar Lal Chowk, Srinagar.

All participating officers reiterated that J&K Police follows a zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics while continuing rehabilitation, outreach, and education efforts to prevent substance abuse and promote reintegration of victims.(KINS)
